The City of Sault Ste. Marie is inviting residents to share their experiences and ideas as it develops a Community Climate Change Adaptation Plan (CCCAP). The Plan will help the City better understand how climate-related hazards affect Sault Ste. Marie and identify practical actions to reduce risks and strengthen resilience across the community.
Residents are encouraged to complete a public survey about weather events and climate impacts experienced in their neighbourhoods and across the city. Feedback will help the City identify vulnerable locations, understand the impacts of extreme weather, and prioritize actions to help the community prepare for changing conditions. The survey will be available online until October 2, 2026, and can be accessed here.
“Local knowledge is an essential part of effective climate adaptation planning,” said Emily Cormier, the City’s Sustainability Coordinator. “We want to hear from residents about the weather events they have experienced, the places they have seen affected, and the actions they believe will help make Sault Ste. Marie more resilient.”
The CCAP will build on the City’s existing climate action work by assessing local climate risks and identifying adaptation measures that can be incorporated into municipal planning, infrastructure, services, and decision-making over time.
