The City of Sault Ste. Marie reminds residents that the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and Special Constables from Norpro Security Ltd. actively monitor and enforce parking regulations across the community.
To help maintain safe, accessible, and clear streets, motorists are reminded of the following:
- Winter Parking Restrictions: Under by-law 77-200-5(14), parking on City streets is not permitted from November 1 to April 30 between 12 a.m. and 6 a.m., even when there is no snow. During snowfall, officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and Norpro Security Ltd. may issue tickets and tow vehicles to assist Public Works with snow removal. Vehicles parked on the road during this time may be towed at the owner’s expense.
- By-Law No. 4001 (Amended By-Law 2018-110) prohibits overnight parking in Downtown Municipal Parking lots year-round
- Do not block sidewalks: Ensure sidewalks always remain clear.
- Parking in designated fire routes is strictly prohibited
- Only vehicles displaying a valid Ministry of Transportation accessible parking permit, with the permit number and expiry date visible, may park in designated accessible spaces
- Vehicles must park facing the correct direction of travel
- Vehicles should not be parked on private property without the owner’s or occupant’s consent
- Vehicles should not be parked within three metres of a fire hydrant
- Vehicles without license plates are prohibited from parking on City streets
- Vehicles that are for sale cannot be parked on City streets
