The holiday season officially kicks off in downtown Sault Ste. Marie on Thursday, November 19, with the return of Moonlight Magic and the annual community tree lighting. Join Mayor Shoemaker at 7 p.m. in front of the courthouse as the community gathers to welcome the festive season.
The event begins at 6:30 p.m., with a performance by Korah’s Mustang Sally. At 7 p.m., the community tree will illuminate downtown with the arrival of special guests Santa and Mr. Bon Soo.
The celebration continues throughout the evening with the holiday lights, games, and live entertainment in the Downtown Plaza, including performances by Jay Case on the Village Stage. Meet Mr. Bon Soo and his team, who will be selling Bon Soo buttons and merchandise, and get a head start on holiday shopping.
Inside the Soo Market, guests can warm up with festive holiday drinks while enjoying late-night shopping. Downtown merchants will be open until 9 p.m., offering promotions and deals throughout the evening.
Community members are encouraged to bring donations for the Sault Transit Stuff-A-Bus in support of Christmas Cheer and local families in need this holiday season.
Parking will be available at the GFL Memorial Gardens, the King Street/Albert Street lot, and the Spring Street/March Street lot. Queen Street from Pim Street to Dennis Street will be closed to traffic beginning at 4 p.m. on November 19 to accommodate the event. North-south cross streets will remain open.
The City thanks Public Works and Engineering Services staff and the many sponsors recognized on the donor tree for helping make the annual tree-lighting event possible. Bring your family and friends downtown and enjoy the festivities, support local businesses, and help welcome the holiday season in Sault Ste. Marie.
