The City of Sault Ste. Marie is pleased to bring the excitement of the FIFA World Cup 2026 to the Downtown Plaza.
The community is invited to watch live matches on the outdoor screen and experience the atmosphere of world-class international football. The Downtown Plaza will serve as a central community viewing location where fans can cheer on their teams and celebrate one of the world’s most anticipated sporting events.
“FIFA at the Downtown Plaza is designed to bring the community together in a vibrant, high-energy setting. This is a great way to experience one of the world’s most celebrated sporting events, right in the heart of downtown Sault Ste. Marie,” states Josh Ingram, Supervisor of the Downtown Plaza.
A highlight of the viewing events will be Canada’s participation in the tournament. Canada will face Bosnia & Herzegovina on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.
Throughout the tournament, the Downtown Plaza will offer engaging fan experiences, including licensed viewing areas for guests aged 19 and older, interactive soccer activities, and a penalty shootout challenge where participants can test their accuracy for a chance to win a $50 Source for Sports gift card. In addition, attendees wearing a soccer jersey will be entered into a draw to win a $50 gift card to a downtown business of their choice.
Additional match schedules, event details, and programming updates will be shared on @YouBelongSSM’s social media channels, the City’s official downtown page highlighting local events and festivals, business features, revitalization updates, shopping, dining, and more.
