Official Plan Updates – Open House

Official Plan Updates

The City of Sault Ste. Marie is moving forward with amendments to the City’s Official Plan, the document that guides long-term land use, infrastructure, housing, and development planning across the community.

As part of this work, the City is proposing several key policy updates, including:

  • A structured evaluation framework for Rural Estate Residential Subdivisions.
  • Identification of Locally Significant Agricultural Areas (LSAAs) and introducing updated consent (lot creation) policies to minimize agricultural fragmentation.
  • Mapping of Secondary Mineral and Aggregate Resource Areas, along with new consent policies and subdivision restrictions to protect long-term access to these resources.
  • Expansion of the Urban Settlement Area boundary to help accommodate future growth.
