The City of Sault Ste. Marie is pleased to welcome the Band of HMCS STAR, one of Canada’s premier Naval Reserve bands, for a special performance at Wolfest on Saturday, September 27, at the Roberta Bondar Pavilion. The band will take the stage from 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., offering the community a rare opportunity to enjoy the talents of these highly trained Canadian Armed Forces musicians.
Based in Hamilton, Ontario, the Band of HMCS STAR has been an integral part of the Naval Reserve Unit in Hamilton for more than 60 years. Comprised of professional musicians, many of whom hold university or college degrees in music, the band regularly performs in parades, concerts, and ceremonies for both local and military dignitaries. Over the years, their music has accompanied appearances by the Royal Family, national sporting events, and prestigious ceremonies such as the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo, the Calgary Stampede, and Rendez-vous naval de Québec.
Wolfest will highlight the Band of HMCS STAR and will also include performances by talented musicians, including The Killer Hooks, Silent Nin9, The Luxury (a Tragically Hip Tribute Band), and Jupiter Marvelous, playing through to 11 p.m. Attendees can also enjoy offerings from local food vendors and artisans on site.
Admission to Wolfest is by charitable donation, with proceeds supporting the Alzheimer Society. With September recognized internationally as Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, the event provides an important opportunity to raise awareness and support local programs and services.
