Project Timeline:
The Transit Optimization Study has been underway since 2024 and has included several opportunities for public input and Council review. A timeline of the study is provided below for reference:
- August 12, 2024 – Report to Council seeking approval and funding for the Transit Route Optimization Study.
- November 2024 to December 2024 – Project initiation and data collection phase began.
- March 12, 2025 – Public announcement launching the Transit Optimization Study and inviting community participation.
- March 25, 2025 – Public Information Session/Open House #1 held at the Civic Centre, including a formal presentation and online survey opportunities.
- Open House #1 Display Boards for public input
- June 18, 2025 – Phase 3 update released outlining potential route concepts and inviting further public review.
- June 25, 2025 – Public Information Session/Open House #2 with display boards for public input was held to present proposed route designs and gather additional feedback from transit users and residents. This included a survey for the public to select one of three possible networks. Sault Loops received the most positive feedback and support from the public. The routes presented are the routes that will be launched on June 9, with only minor adjustments.
- November 3. 2025 – Report to Council summarizing the network review and obtaining Council approval to proceed with the new network with an implementation date of June, 2026. This report included maps of the final routes.
- May 25, 2026 – Report to Council summarizing communication initiatives
