Goulais Avenue lane reconfiguration aims to enhance traffic safety
Wednesday, May 29, 2024
The City of Sault Ste. Marie is beginning work on the Goulais Avenue reconfiguration project to improve traffic safety. The project, spanning from Second Line to Chippewa Street will transform the current four-lane roadway into a three-lane configuration. This new layout will include two-through lanes for vehicles, painted bike lanes, and a center two-way left turn lane. This redesign aims to enhance traffic safety, reduce vehicle speeds, and promote cycling and pedestrian activity.
Work is scheduled to begin this week, installing traffic signage and pre-marking in preparation for line painting. The project is expected to be completed by June, weather permitting. Residents and motorists are advised to be aware of the ongoing activities and be cautious when traveling through the area.
