July 13 Evening Update: Wildland Fire

Wildland fire update

The wildland fire in the vicinity of the Sault Ste. Marie Airport is under control.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of Sault Fire Services and the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), no evacuations were required, and airport operations remained unaffected throughout the incident.

Sault Fire Services extends its appreciation to the Ministry of Natural Resources for its partnership and support throughout the response. The City also thanks all Sault Fire Services personnel for their professionalism, dedication, and tireless efforts in safely bringing the incident under control.

As dry conditions persist, residents are reminded to exercise caution when burning outdoors. Any open-air burning must comply with the City of Sault Ste. Marie’s Open Air Burning By-law. Never leave a fire unattended, keep a means of extinguishment nearby, and ensure all fires are completely extinguished before leaving the area. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary burning until conditions improve.

The City thanks residents for their patience and cooperation throughout the response.
