The City of Sault Ste. Marie has reissued a Request for Proposals (RFP) inviting interested parties to lease and develop approximately 28.7 acres of the former Pointe des Chenes campground.
“Following the previous RFP process, staff have been contacted by several organizations and private proponents expressing interest in the site and seeking information regarding future development opportunities. Some of this includes developing and operating complementary tourism and recreation-based uses on the site,” said Brent Lamming, Deputy CAO, Community Development and Enterprise Services.
Pointe des Chenes remains one of the City’s premier waterfront recreational destinations and continues to experience increased public use. Recent municipal investments, including accessibility improvements, the disc golf course, shade structures, enhanced beach amenities, and the Summer Beach Bus program, have further strengthened the site’s value as a community and tourism asset.
Potential uses for the campground area and surrounding land include, but are not limited to, a seasonal or year-round campground, boutique cabins, wellness or nature retreat, outdoor recreation and adventure tourism, or equipment rentals and recreational services. The City will accept creative concepts and may consider combining more than one proposal, depending on space requirements and compatibility with the park setting.
Interested proponents must register to receive the official RFP document through the Bids & Tenders portal. Electronic submissions will be received no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2026. For more information, please contact Karen Marlow, Manager of Purchasing at k.marlow@cityssm.on.ca.
