Sault Canal Lock
As part of the Sault Canal National Historic Site of Parks Canada, the City of Sault Ste. Marie operates and maintains the Recreational Lock through a contractual agreement with the Federal government.
In 1995, the City of Sault Ste. Marie and Parks Canada entered into a collaborative agreement to operate and maintain the new recreational lock at the Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site of Canada. Over the years a strong partnership has developed between our two organizations as we work cooperatively to maintain this important community and national asset.
The National Historic Site with its recreational lock is a valuable part of the city's waterfront and an important cultural link to the historic fabric of the the community.
