Skating Schedule

People skating.

Public and adult recreational ice skating is available at the John Rhodes Community Centre Arena and the Northern Community Centre.

Sledge Skating is available at the John Rhodes Arena 2 and Shinny is available at the Northern Community Centre Arena.

The GFL Memorial Gardens does not offer public or adult skating.

Skating Schedules


Public Skating Fees (Including HST)
Adult - $4.75
Student/Senior - $4.25
Senior (Age 55+) - $4.25
Youth (18 and under) - $3.50
 

All schedules are subject to change due to facility needs.
 
Shinny
 
Shinny is an informal game of hockey played on ice. There is usually minimal equipment needed to play and no goaltender.
 
September to April: Friday 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Northern Community Centre Arena 2 - NCC2
No shinny on January 31, February 28, 2025. 
 
All schedules are subject to change due to facility needs.

To play, you will need:
  • A CSA approved hockey helmet, mandatory for all participants
  • If you're under 19 years old, a full face guard is recommended
  • Hockey gloves and neck guard is highly recommended for all participants
  • Your own skates, sticks and pucks
  • All participants must pay prior to accessing the ice surface. Proceed to facility front desk to make payment. See fees below:
Shinny Fees
Adult $4.50
Student/Senior $4
Youth (18 and under) $3.50

Outdoor Skating Schedule

Outdoor ice rinks operated by the City of Sault Ste. Marie are now closed for the season. The Downtown Plaza ice pad will remain open weather permitting.  Follow The Downtown Plaza on Facebook for the latest information on ice conditions.

Monday to Friday noon – 9 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
