Community Energy Efficiency Incentives

Energy efficiency is one of the most cost-effective ways for residents and businesses to lower their energy emissions, as well as save money. It is also a core deliverable under the Sault Ste. Marie Community Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan 2020 – 2030.

There are a variety of energy conservation and retrofit incentive programs available to residents and businesses in Canada and Ontario. A summary of available programs is listed below. 

Residential

Homeowners will now have more choices, with flexible options for single and bundled upgrades for greater savings. You can choose to complete a home energy assessment and bundle up, plus, you can also complete single upgrades that help you save.

The Energy Affordability Program provides support to income-eligible electricity consumers by helping them to better manage their monthly electricity costs and to increase their home comfort.

Residents can save with Save on Energy’s Peak Perks program. You’ll be rewarded for reducing your energy use when demand for electricity in Ontario is high this summer.

Enbridge also offers a suite of incentives for its residential customers. For more information about Enbridge’s residential incentive programs.

Enbridge Gas customers can receive an instant $75 rebate towards a qualifying smart thermostat purchase.

Income-qualifying Enbridge Gas customers can receive free energy-saving improvements such as draft proofing and insulation.

Enbridge Gas customers can help support Ontario’s transition to clean energy through OptUp, a new voluntary Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) program. For two dollars a month, residential customers who sign up will contribute to reducing Ontario’s carbon footprint with the purchase and addition of RNG to the natural gas supply. 

Sault Ste. Marie’s PUC Services has launched a EV Home Charger Rental Program. For $35.00 / month, you can enjoy the convenience of charging worry free at home. PUC Services Inc. will conduct the installation as well as technical support, and the charger is fully warrantied through them. 

Commercial

Ontario small businesses can receive up to $5,500 in direct install incentives at no cost. This program helps these businesses reduce their energy consumption with lighting, refrigeration and smart thermostat.

The Peak Performance Program provides financial incentives to reduce HVAC use on peak days and save energy.

The Instant Discounts Program helps Ontario businesses save on energy-efficient lighting from participating distributors with lighting discounts. The distributor will provide the discount with no paper work.

The Retrofit Program provides incentives to help businesses reduce energy costs by implementing energy efficient equipment.

The Expanded Energy Management Program provides funding and support to help businesses improve energy efficiency through strategic energy management practices. Incentives are available for hiring energy managers, implementing energy-saving plans, and completing projects that reduce overall electricity use.

The Energy Performance Program rewards businesses for improving overall building energy performance through ongoing energy savings. Participants receive financial incentives based on verified reductions in electricity use across entire facilities over time, supporting long-term efficiency improvements and lower operating costs.

The Existing Building Commissioning Program provides financial incentives to hire qualified commissioning providers for building recommissioning. Improved operations and maintenance will increase energy savings.

The Commercial Custom Retrofit Program helps reduce energy costs with incentives for high-efficiency upgrades.

The Prescriptive Incentive Program helps upgrade to high-efficiency natural gas equipment to reduce energy costs.

The Building Retrofits Initiative provides financing to reduce investment barriers and decarbonize buildings.

The Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit provides refundable tax credits for eligible businesses who adopt or operate new clean technology.
