The City of Sault Ste. Marie recognizes the accomplishments of individuals and/or groups through the presentation of various awards.
Community Recognition Award
The Community Recognition Award is offered annually to recognize contribution and commitment in the field of culture. Every individual, group or community organization may make one nomination of an individual, group or organization each year – providing an excellent opportunity to reward local cultural achievement.
Halloween Spirit Award

The Sault Ste. Marie Hockey Hall of Fame recognizes the contributions of players, teams, coaches and referees to the sport of hockey.
Holiday Lighting Awards
The Holiday Lighting Awards encourage community pride and recognize the efforts of residents who light up their homes and businesses in the spirit of the holiday season.
Medal of Merit Award
The Medal of Merit is awarded to an individual or group who has achieved provincial or national championship status in an athletic or other competitive endeavour, achieved a standard of excellence in a cultural or academic field, or has made an outstanding contribution to the community.

Walk of Fame Award
The Walk of Fame Award recognizes individuals or groups for outstanding athletic, cultural, academic or humanitarian achievement.

Community Development Award
The Community Development Award recognizes exceptional community development projects. It is presented annually to a local business or organization with the goal of highlighting innovative ideas and inspiring others to meet the standards set by successful projects.
Community development is an all-encompassing term. Eligible projects may positively benefit the community in one or several of the following ways:
- Enhance the visual quality of the built environment
- Pursue sustainable development and protect the natural environment
- Promote equity and accessibility to a variety of people, income groups, and abilities
- Maximize employment and earning opportunities
- Facilitate heritage preservation
