Local Food and Community Gardens

The Ontario Government enacted Bill 36, Local Food Act, 2013, to: ‘foster successful and resilient local food economies and systems throughout Ontario; increase awareness of local food in Ontario, including the diversity of local food; and encourage the development of new markets for local food’.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie has embraced the Province’s message and has been working with the Algoma Community Garden Network to establish new gardens and support existing gardens across the municipality.
