Sault Transit is adjusting three bus routes beginning Sunday, September 20, as part of its ongoing efforts to improve transit service. The adjustments follow a review of system performance, ridership patterns, scheduling, and community feedback with a focus on providing efficient, reliable, and accessible service.
The September 20 changes will affect the Eastside, Citywide Counter-Clockwise, and Hillside Clockwise routes.
Eastside Route
The Eastside route will service Lawson Avenue, restoring a routing pattern that was previously in place. Beginning September 20, buses will turn right onto Anna Street, left onto Lawson Avenue, and then left onto Manitou Park Drive.
Citywide Counter-Clockwise Route
The Citywide Counter-Clockwise route will serve Churchill Plaza. Beginning September 20, after servicing the John Rhodes Community Centre, buses will turn right onto Elizabeth Street, right onto Wellington Street, right onto Lake Street, and left onto Queen Street, providing service to Churchill Plaza.
Hillside Clockwise Route
The Hillside Clockwise route will be adjusted to serve Station Mall. Beginning September 20, buses will turn left onto Brock Street, left onto St. Mary’s River Drive, and right into Station Mall’s western entrance. The route will serve the stop near the former Walmart entrance and the stop at the entrance connecting to Dennis Street, then continue along Dennis Street to the terminal.
Transit riders are encouraged to plan ahead and review the updated routes and schedules before traveling. Route information is available at www.saultstemarie.ca/transit. The Trip Planner website, Google Maps, and the Umo app will be updated to reflect the route changes once they take effect on September 20.
The City will continue to monitor transit service and make adjustments as needed to ensure the system responds to ridership patterns and community needs. For assistance with route planning, contact transit at 705-759-5438 or email transit@cityssm.on.ca
