Notice of Nominations – School Board Trustees in Algoma

The City of Sault Ste. Marie is administering the 2026 election of School Board Trustees for the Algoma District School Board, the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board, le Conseil Scolaire de District Catholique du Nouvel-Ontario and le Conseil Scolaire de District Du Grand Nord de L’Ontario in territories without municipal organization in the District of Algoma. The 2026 election will be conducted by vote-by-mail. Election day is Monday, October 26, 2026.

A person may be nominated for the office of School Board Trustee if they reside in the municipality or locality as listed below; are the owner or tenant of land there, or the spouse of such owner or tenant; are a Canadian citizen; are at least 18 years old; and are not legally prohibited from voting and are not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.

Before incurring any expenses or collecting any money, candidates must file a nomination paper on the prescribed form with the filing fee of $100 (cash, debit or certified cheque) with the City Clerk, City of Sault Ste. Marie, at the Ronald A. Irwin Civic Centre, 99 Foster Drive, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Appointments are encouraged to ensure availability. Nominations will be accepted between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, beginning Friday, May 1, 2026 (excepting statutory holidays) until Friday, August 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.

One trustee representing the Township of Prince and the Sault North Locality

Huron Superior Catholic District School Board

Six trustees representing the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Township of Laird, Township of Tarbutt, Township of Johnson, Township of Macdonald, Meredith and Aberdeen Additional, Township of Prince, and Sault North Locality.

Conseil Scolaire Public Grand Nord de l’Ontario

One trustee representing the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Township of Prince, and Sault North Locality.

 Conseil Scolaire Catholique du Nouvel-Ontario

One (1) trustee representing the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Township of Macdonald, Meredith and Aberdeen Additional, Township of Johnson, Township of Laird, Township of Prince, Sault North Locality, and North Shore Locality.
