The City of Sault Ste. Marie will host an information session for those interested in running for municipal council in the 2026 Municipal Election. The session will be held on Wednesday, April 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Russ Ramsay Room, Level 3, at the Ronald A. Irwin Civic Centre.

Agenda:
5 to 5:30 p.m. – Overview of the nomination process, presented by City staff
5:30 to 7 p.m.– Presentation by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and a question-and-answer period.

The session is designed to help prospective candidates understand the nomination process and what to expect when running for City Council. Attendees will gain valuable information about eligibility requirements, filing procedures, campaign rules, and key election timelines.

Nominations for the 2026 Municipal Election will be accepted from Friday, May 1, 2026, until Friday, August 21, 2026, at 2 p.m. The term of office will run from November 2026 to November 2030. Candidate packages will be available at the City Clerk’s Office. Voting Day is Monday, October 26, 2026
