The City of Sault Ste. Marie is preparing to resume all municipal services following the significant winter weather event, as crews continue snow-clearing operations across the community.
Road clearing: Public Works staff continue to prioritize clearing main roads, followed by residential streets. Crews will continue working in residential areas and clearing designated sidewalks throughout the evening and into tomorrow. Residents are reminded not to block sidewalks and to avoid parking on roadways during winter weather events, as this can significantly delay snow-clearing operations.
Please continue to exercise caution when travelling on City streets and sidewalks.
Transit: Transit service is expected to resume tomorrow at 6:15 a.m. Bus routes may continue to experience delays, and Parabus vehicles may encounter difficulty accessing unplowed parking lots. Residents are asked to remain patient as crews continue clearing operations.
Waste Collection: Regular Tuesday garbage and recycling collection is expected to resume tomorrow. Residents are asked not to place carts at the curb this evening, as they interfere with overnight snowplowing operations. The City’s landfill site will reopen tomorrow.
City Facilities: All City-operated community centres are expected to reopen tomorrow, with regular programming resuming. This includes:
- Northern Community Centre (arena, turf, and community space)
- John Rhodes Community Centre (arena and pool)
- GFL Memorial Gardens (arena, administrative offices, and box office)
- Bay Street Active Living Centre 55+
- Downtown Plaza and outdoor rink
- Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site
The Ronald A. Irwin Civic Centre is expected to reopen for regular operations tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
The City thanks residents for their patience and cooperation during this challenging weather event. With continued snowfall and additional accumulation forecasts, residents should continue to remain cautious.
