The City of Sault Ste. Marie has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) inviting entrepreneurs, organizations, and visionary developers to lease and develop approximately 28.7 acres of the former Pointe des Chenes campground.
“Over the past year, a number of parties have expressed interest in the property,” said Brent Lamming, Deputy CAO, Community Development and Enterprise Services. “To ensure broad awareness and allow ample time for business plan development, the City is offering an extended three-month submission period. We are seeking innovative proposals that enhance public access and complement the adjacent day park.”
The Pointe Des Chenes area has become a popular destination, with significant enhancements including a summer beach bus, a disc golf course, improved accessibility features such as a water wheelchair, and a shaded picnic shelter. Potential opportunities for the campground area and surrounding land include, but are not limited to, a seasonal trailer park, wellness retreat, or destination resort. The City will accept creative concepts and may consider combining more than one proposal, depending on space requirements and compatibility with the park setting.
Interested proponents must register to receive the official RFP document through the Bids & Tenders portal. For more information, please contact Karen Marlow, Manager of Purchasing at 705-759-5298 or email k.marlow@cityssm.on.ca.
