The City of Sault Ste. Marie advises the public that the Herkimer Street bridge will reopen to traffic on Tuesday, December 9, at 8 a.m. To ensure continued safety and structural integrity, the bridge is limited to one-lane traffic. Motorists are asked to proceed with caution when traveling in the area.
To support safe use of the bridge, the speed limit has been reduced to 25 km/h, and a weight restriction of 15 tonnes is in effect. Signage has been installed, and motorists are expected to comply with all posted instructions.
Vehicles that exceed the weight limit or do not meet operational requirements are directed to use Townline Road as an alternate route.
