City Council is accepting applications from individuals interested in serving on the following boards and committees:
- Community Development Award Committee – one vacancy
- Cultural Vitality Committee – up to three vacancies
- Environmental Sustainability Committee
- Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation Board – two vacancies appointed by City Council and one vacancy appointed by the Board*
City Council has established a new Downtown Development Committee. The purpose of the Committee is to collaborate with downtown stakeholders, businesses, and community leaders to explore a potential shift in how the greater downtown is served. The goal is to better enable all partners to proactively and directly address the unique needs and challenges facing the broader downtown area.
- Downtown Development Committee – three vacancies representing downtown businesses; up to nine vacancies for community members with a demonstrated interest in the downtown core
Appointments are until December 31, 2026. Information regarding Boards and Committees can be found at www.saultstemarie.ca/boardscommittees.
Individuals are asked to complete an application form (available on the City website: www.saultstemarie.ca/boardscommittees), including details outlining relevant experience or expertise.
Personal information is collected under the authority of the Municipal Act and will be held in strict confidence to be used solely for the purpose stated above. Further to the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the application form and supporting material of applicants shall be circulated to members of City Council and will not be disclosed for use by any third party, and will only be disclosed, as required, through the open discussion of Council when considering applicants.
*Applications and supporting material for the SSMEDC Board vacancies will be circulated to the SSMEDC Board for purposes of selecting a Board-appointed member.
Applications will be accepted by the City Clerk until 4:30 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2025.
