Sault Ste. Marie Regional Training Centre

The Sault Ste. Marie Regional Training Centre (SSMRTC) is a designated regional training centre and is an accredited satellite campus of the Ontario Fire College (OFC), offering National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) courses for Ontario Municipal Fire Services.

Registration information

How to register for a course
 
Unless otherwise stated, applicants are members of an Ontario municipal Fire Service. Your municipal Fire Chief or approved designate, confirms you have the required prerequisites and completes your application.  Your fire department will be notified of your acceptance by email approximately one month prior to the start of the course.
 
To register for an upcoming course, please refer to the OFM Training and Certification Portal.
 
If you are from a fire department that is not yet onboarded, complete the application form and submit to the OFC.  Please request a copy of the form from the Sault Ste. Marie Regional Training Centre at s.coccimiglio@cityssm.on.ca and forward your completed application to the same email address. 
 
Course Prerequisites
Unless otherwise stated, applicants are members of an Ontario municipal fire service, be it full, part time or volunteer. It is the responsibility of each Municipal Fire Chief or approved designate, to determine applicant meets prerequisites to be eligible to apply for and attend the course, and seek certification. Your application will be reviewed by the OFC Registrar prior to approval for OFC courses.

Registration Fees

OFC Fees
 
Fire departments will be charged a non-refundable registration fee of $65.00 for each student accepted into a course by the OFC. Fire departments will be invoiced quarterly by the OFC.
 
SSMRTC Fees
 
Course fee identified in the SSMRTC course calendar for each student accepted into a course is invoiced by the City of Sault Ste. Marie prior to the start of the course. Payment must be made at least 2 weeks prior to the online course start date.
 
Harmonized Sales Tax
 
Harmonized Sales Tax is charged on all courses. All course fees listed do not include the applicable HST.
 
Course cancellations
 
If you are cancelling
  • OFC approved courses are cancelled in accordance with the OFC Cancellation Policy.
  • SSMRTC cancellation received 8 weeks or less prior to the course start date may be charged the full course registration fee.

Additional Information

Parking

Student parking is available on-site for all courses.

Student(s) under the influence of alcohol/drugs/non prescription pharmaceuticals will be removed from the course and no refund will be issued.

Smoking is not permitted in/on the property except in the designated area.

Failure to follow this policy will result in students being removed from the course with no refund.

Meals are not provided. There are a number of restaurants nearby.

Students must complete the online coursework prior to the commencement of the in-class sessions; if the online learning portion and assignments are not completed and submitted on time, students will not be permitted to attend at the in-class portion of the course.
 
Students are required to bring paper, a pen or pencil, a USB memory stick and a laptop or tablet.
 
Students are required to print and bring their own class materials.
