Construction

  • Prepares contract documents for the tendering of City projects.
  • Administers the City’s construction projects, including field inspection, quality control, record keeping and payments.
  • Prepares estimates for various City construction projects.
  • Handles miscellaneous complaints associated with the City construction projects.
  • Prepares funding requests to provincial and federal agencies. Prepares the five-year capital construction program and the miscellaneous construction program.
  • Implements improvements to sanitary sewer infrastructure, including wastewater treatment plants, pump stations and sanitary sewer overflow tanks.
  • Administers the capital works program ($11 million) and the miscellaneous construction program ($1.3 million).
  • Administers the MTO Connecting Link reconstruction program ($2 million).

Design

  • Obtains field survey information for the preparation of design drawings for the reconstruction of municipal infrastructure.
  • Ensures municipal servicing records are stored and updated.
  • Implements and maintains Corporate Geographic Information System (GIS) through the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Center (SSMIC).
  • Provides technical support for some maintenance programs administered by the Public Works and Engineering Department.
  • Reviews operations such as refuse collection routes, and plow routes for Public Works and Engineering.
  • Provides technical support and drafting assistance to other municipal departments.
  • Approves plans of subdivisions and ensure subdivisions are constructed according to these plans and specifications.
  • Negotiates subdivision and other land development agreements.
  • Assists citizens in resolving private rear-yard drainage issues, when feasible.
