Leaf and Yard Waste

Leaf and Yard Waste

Notice: Leaf and yard waste collection was scheduled to begin on May 4. This collection has been delayed until the week of May 11 beginning with Route B. Collection will occur on your waste collection day. This is as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie provides bi-weekly collection of leaf and yard waste, which is processed into compost. There is no bag limit for leaf and yard waste.

Leaf and yard waste consists of leaves, grass clippings, and garden waste. These are the only items which will be accepted for collection. All animal waste and branches must be removed. Only biodegradable paper bags will be accepted. Please note: the landfill does accept brush, branches, trees and wood at the designated brush dump area.

All leaf and yard waste must be placed curbside before 7 a.m. on collection day.

To identify your collection day, locate your address by using the Collection Calendar and visit the Curbside Collection Calender to access the collection schedule.

Rural residents outside the Fourth Line and Allen's Side Road boundaries may call 705-759-5201 to arrange for individual collection of leaf and yard waste during the scheduled months.

Lemieux Composting, located at 764 Black Road, will accept leaf and yard waste free of charge when you empty your bags at their site.
