Leaf and Yard Waste

Leaf and Yard Waste

Notice: The 2021 leaf and yard waste season begins May 3 for Route A and May 10 for Route B. The full schedule is avaliable at: 2021 Leaf and Yard Waste Calendar. If you are unsure whether you are in Route A or Route B, you can find out through the Collection Schedule Map.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie provides bi-weekly collection of leaf and yard waste, which is processed into compost. There is no bag limit for leaf and yard waste.

Leaf and yard waste consists of leaves, grass clippings, and garden waste. These are the only items which will be accepted for collection. All animal waste and branches must be removed. Only biodegradable paper bags will be accepted. Please note: the landfill does accept brush, branches, trees and wood at the designated brush dump area.

All leaf and yard waste must be placed curbside before 7 a.m. on collection day.

Rural residents outside the Fourth Line and Allen's Side Road boundaries may call 705-759-5201 to arrange for individual collection of leaf and yard waste during the scheduled months.

For more information, contact Mike Blanchard, Manager, Waste Management and Refuse, at 705-541-7087 or email: m.blanchard@cityssm.on.ca.
