The holiday season begins in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, with the return of Moonlight Magic and the annual community tree lighting. Join Mayor Shoemaker on Thursday, November 20, at 7 p.m. in front of the courthouse to officially launch the festive season.
The event begins at 6:30 p.m., with a performance by Korah’s Mustang Sally. At 7 p.m., the community tree will light up with the arrival of special guests Santa and Bon Soo.
Throughout the evening, enjoy holiday lights, games, and live entertainment in the Downtown Plaza, including performances by Soo Sings Holiday Glee and Jay Case on the Village Stage. Meet Bon Soo and his team, who will be selling Bon Soo buttons and merchandise, perfect for holiday gift giving. Visitors can also purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a complete sauna package, on display along Queen Street.
Warm up inside the Soo Market with festive holiday drinks and browse late-night shopping deals. Downtown merchants will be open until 9 p.m., offering specials and promotions.
In the spirit of giving, guests are encouraged to bring donations for the Sault Transit Stuff-A-Bus supporting Christmas Cheer and families in need this season.
Parking will be available at the GFL Memorial Gardens, King Street/Albert Street lot, and Spring Street/March Street lot. To accommodate the event, Queen Street from Pim Street to Dennis Street will be closed to traffic beginning at 4 p.m. on November 20. North and south cross streets will remain open.
Thank you to the City’s Public Works and Engineering Services staff, the Downtown Association, and the many sponsors recognized on the donor tree for helping to make the annual tree lighting event possible. We look forward to seeing you there.
