Tax Certificates

A tax certificate is a legal document that shows the annual property taxes and any current or prior arrears for a property. They are often requested during the sale or purchase of a property.

If you require a tax certificate from the City of Sault Ste. Marie, the cost is $65.00. There is no HST on this fee.

Include property information; roll number, property address, legal description and/or owner name within your request.

To request a tax certificate, you may use one of the following methods:

  • By regular mail/courier (including cheque payable to the City of Sault Ste. Marie) to: Finance Department – Tax Division, City of Sault Ste. Marie, 99 Foster Drive, Sault Ste. Marie, ON, P6A 5X6
  • By email – send requests to citytax@cityssm.on.ca. Tax Certificates will not be processed until payment is received.
  • In person – Request and make payment on main floor at the Central Collections counter
  • NEW – by credit card – order and pay here

Please ensure property is within the City of Sault Ste. Marie boundaries. Tax Document requests are non-refundable. 

When completed, the tax certificate will be mailed or emailed to the address specified.

Please note: tax certificates are processed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
