Draft strategy for rejuvenating the James Street neighbourhood now available

Thursday, October 8, 2020

Since last September, the City of Sault Ste. Marie has been gathering input and recommendations from residents and community stakeholders on ideas for rejuvenating the James Street neighbourhood. Staff are now ready to present a draft of the James Street Neighbourhood Strategy to Council at its October 26, 2020 meeting.

"This strategy includes numerous recommendations for improvements to Anna Marinelli Park and the James Street pedestrian mall, better pedestrian and cyclist crossings on Carmen's Way between Queen and Cathcart streets, and ways to make the James Street neighbourhood a more attractive and welcoming place to live, work and visit," says Don McConnell, Director of Planning and Enterprise Services at the City of Sault Ste. Marie.

To view the draft James Street Neighbourhood Strategy, as well as various supporting materials including a data profile of the neighbourhood visit shapethesault.ca/james-street. In addition, staff have collaborated with the Soup Kitchen Community Centre (172 James Street) and set up a window display beside their front entrance for viewing.

All are welcome to continue to share questions and comments with City staff. Input received will be useful as staff prepare to present the James Street Neighbourhood Strategy to Council.
