Significant weather event update – City urges residents stay off the roads unless necessary
Friday, November 29, 2024
Throughout the night, the City experienced a significant snowfall (50 cm and more in certain areas), with another 30 cm projected in the forecast. Due to the ongoing snowfall, the City is advising residents of the following:
-
Motorists are encouraged to stay off the roads to allow essential services to continue
-
Transit routes and Parabus service is canceled until further notice
-
There will be no garbage or recycling pick-up today. Today's collection will be postponed to next Friday and will allow for additional bags.
-
The landfill is closed until further notice
-
City community centres are closed, and all programming is canceled until further notice
-
The Ronald A. Irwin Civic Centre will be closed until further notice
Road clearing will continue throughout the day as possible. Public Works continues to deploy all available crews and equipment to keep up with the falling snow and ice formation. Arterial and collector roads are prioritized, followed by residential streets.
Motorists should drive according to the road conditions and maintain a safe distance for heavy equipment operators to clear and sand roadways safely and efficiently.
