Calling on community's youth for Earth Day Video

Monday, March 4, 2024

As Earth Day approaches on Monday, April 22, 2024, the City of Sault Ste. Marie is launching an initiative aimed at showcasing the commitment to sustainability demonstrated by the community’s youth. All Sault Ste. Marie schools are invited to participate by creating a 1-minute video highlighting their sustainability initiatives. Whether it's reducing plastic usage, conserving energy, promoting recycling, advocating for biodiversity, or any other eco-friendly endeavor, students are encouraged to share their efforts and ideas for creating a more sustainable world.
"We all have a role to play in making our world a better place today and for future generations,” said Emily Cormier, Sustainability Coordinator. “We want to hear from students about their vision and actionable steps for fostering sustainability, not just on Earth Day but every day”.
Video Details:
  • Videos (Mp4 or video file format) must not exceed 1 minute in length.
  • Cell phone footage is accepted (horizontal filming), ensuring compliance with copyright music.
  • Submissions are due by 4:30 p.m. on April 12, 2024, via email to
  • Include the school’s name and contact person (e.g., Teacher, Principal) in the email.
All videos will be compiled into one and viewed on the City’s Downtown Plaza screen as part of Earth Day Programming on April 22. Additionally, these videos will be shared across the City’s social media platforms. Each participating school will be entered into a draw to win one of two countertop composters donated by FoodCycler. These composters offer an indoor composting solution, transforming food waste into nutrient-rich fertilizer, suitable for school gardens or indoor plant care.
