Residential Accessory Buildings

Detached accessory buildings, such as garages and storage sheds, vary in size and area. The requirements and construction guidelines that are provided are to assist you in designing and constructing a detached garage or storage shed which will comply with the regulations.

If the nature of your project is different than that contained in the Guide to Detached Residential Accessory Buildings booklet, or you are not familiar with the regulations which may be applicable, it is recommended that you contact someone who is knowledgeable in this area such as a qualified designer.

The information provided in the booklet is based on the minimum standards set out in the Ontario Building Code and City Zoning By-Law.

Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of information contained in the guide, however, in the event of a discrepancy between guide and the governing Act, Regulation, or By-Law, the Act, Regulation, or By-Law will take precedence.

We strongly encourage applicants to discuss their specific projects with Our Team in the Planning and Building Division prior to commencement.
