Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
Step 1: Before submitting a request
The Legal Department processes requests made under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (“Act”) to ensure that information shared is in accordance with the Act. This includes, redacting personal information, reviewing applicable exemption, seeking third party consent, amongst other steps under the Act.
Some municipal information, such as council reports, meeting agendas, and by-law’s, are readily available to the public. Please consult these areas before submitting a request.
Contacting the city department responsible for the information is suggested as a routine disclosure process may be in place, or they may be able to provide information about the records that may be useful to you.
