The City of Sault Ste. Marie is pleased to announce the launch of the newly redesigned municipal website: www.saultstemarie.ca. With a modern design and improved functionality, the updated site offers enhanced accessibility and is designed to deliver a user-friendly experience for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

“The launch of our new website marks an important advancement in how we communicate and engage with the public,” said Tessa Vecchio, Communications Manager for the City of Sault Ste. Marie. “This is more than a visual refresh. The site reflects our commitment to transparency, accessibility, and ensuring municipal information and services are easy to find and use. We encourage everyone to explore the new platform and all the information and resources it has to offer.”

This is the first major redesign of the City’s website in nearly 20 years. The updated platform incorporates current web standards and best practices, with highlights including:

  • Mobile-Friendly Design: Optimized for all devices, from smartphones to tablets.
  • Streamlined Navigation: Simplified menus and enhanced search functionality make finding information faster and easier.
  • Improved back-end content management.
  • Service-Oriented Layout: Quick access to permits, tax payments, waste collection schedules, and other frequently used services.
  • Enhanced Accessibility: Developed in compliance AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) standards, ensuring inclusivity for all users.
  • Real-Time Updates: City news, alerts, and emergency notifications.
  • Interactive Features: Online reporting, event calendars, and application forms improve convenience.

The new website was funded through the 2023 municipal budget and awarded through a competitive RFP process in 2024. Local digital media and marketing agency Cavera Inc. led the development. With expertise in user experience, design, and web solutions, Cavera worked closely with the City to create a platform that reflects the evolving needs of the community.

“It was a pleasure to, once more, collaborate with the City of Sault Ste. Marie,” said Jeff Greco, owner of Cavera Inc., whose team also developed the City’s Tourism and Welcome to SSM websites. “Cavera, and the entire project team, live here in Sault Ste Marie, so we are especially proud to have helped build a digital platform that reflects the needs of our community, one that is accessible, responsive, and is built with the future in mind.”

The new website is now live at www.saultstemarie.ca. Community members are invited to explore the site and share feedback by emailing info@cityssm.on.ca.
