Automated Speed Enforcement
Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) uses cameras and speed measurement devices to enforce speed limits. ASE systems capture images of vehicles exceeding the speed limit in school and community safety zones. Tickets are issued to the vehicle’s registered owner, resulting in a monetary fine but no demerit points.
ASE cameras use radar to detect speeding vehicles. The system captures an image of the vehicle’s license plate, along with the date, time, and speed. This information is reviewed, and if valid, a ticket is mailed to the registered owner. Tickets are issued to the owner of the vehicle regardless of who was driving. No demerit points will be issued and the registered owner’s driving record will not be impacted.
ASE helps enforce speed limits in areas with vulnerable road users, such as school zones. It aims to reduce speeding, thus lowering the risk of collisions and improving overall road safety. Clear signs will be posted in each school zone and community safety zone where ASE is active. Additionally, signs will be installed 90 days before tickets are issued to give drivers ample notice.
