Soo Moves Active Transportation
The City of Sault Ste Marie is developing the Soo Moves Active Transportation Master Plan (ATMP) to make the City more comfortable, more accessible and more convenient for people who walk, bike and wheel to get around.
By creating a plan to build new cycling routes, trails, sidewalk connections and crossings, the City will build on its existing investments in the Hub Trail and its spoke routes to support more choice in how people get around. The Soo Moves Plan will also help to connect residents and visitors alike to organizations and groups who are making it easier to walk or bike in the City, giving them new ways to connect with their community at a human scale.
As the plan progresses, the project team wants to hear from you about how the City can improve active transportation, and connect you to the places you want to go. Hearing from the people who are most impacted by decisions about investments in Sault Ste. Marie is a vital component of this project – we want to create a plan that is informed by the lived experiences of all people who call Sault Ste. Marie home.

Throughout the project, we will be post a series of Discussion Papers that align with each phase of the project. These Papers, once reviewed by the public, will eventually form the final Soo Moves document. Essentially, each Discussion Paper will be a Chapter in the Soo Moves Plan, so residents will have confidence knowing that there will be no surprises as the final report makes its way onto the Council agenda.
Each Discussion Paper will be refined through consultation with City Staff and stakeholders and discussed at engagement events with the public before they are finalized and posted on the project website to ensure greater transparency and accountability throughout the project.
