VIVID: Arts, Culture, Media Festival begins this weekend

On Friday, September 20, participate in artist-led workshops by local talents, including guided book-folding with Lisa Tucker at the Plaza Beer Garden, a multimedia presentation of Traces II by Michael Burtch and Annie King, the engaging 'Strange Exhibits' walking tour of the City’s mural collection, and a three-hour neotraditional country concert at the Downtown Plaza featuring Honey Guys, Brendan Hodgson, and the Golden Scoundrels.
 
To attend any of the free workshops, performances, screenings, or tours, sign up at vividartfest.ca. Registration is appreciated, and walk-ins are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis. 
 
On Saturday, September 21, enjoy accessible early-morning yoga in the Plaza led by Cynthia McCutcheon of Dagokiing Yoga (bring your own mat). The Mosaic Market, held alongside the Soo Market, will showcase a variety of creators, vendors, and artisans offering unique products. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., enjoy live global music and dance performances hosted by the Local Immigration. 
 
Later, at the Soo Market, join Tagona Press Publisher Bryan Davies, authors Judy Penz Sheluk and Marianne Perry, and podcast host Lisa Tucker will share insights into the world of publishing. At 8 p.m., choose between two exciting evening events: The Country-Hoe Down with 2SOC and the Bawating Babes Drag Show at Mane Street Events Room & Lounge (tickets $20 at the door), or enjoy free EDM and Hip-Hop performances at the Plaza starting at 6 p.m., featuring Mickey O’Brien, Fresh Kils, OhZee, Planet Rock, Skeletune and Bold Noize.
 
Wrap up the weekend on Sunday, September 22, at the VIVID one-day film festival at the Sault Ste. Marie Museum, which features short films, documentaries, and Canadian and Latin-produced feature films. Workshops and walking tours continue throughout the day, including a special session at the Art Hub with Sarah Skagen on She: How It Came To Be and How You Can Do It Too.
 
This year, VIVID is honoured to welcome globally renowned artists Dinho Bento, Megan Oldhues, and Josh Morley, who will create and install large-scale public art murals downtown, adding to the City’s growing collection of public art.
