Public Consultation Event: Transit, Recreation and Culture and Accessibility

Thursday, October 17, 2024
The City of Sault Ste. Marie Transit, the Accessibility Centre and the Recreation and Culture Division are hosting a public consultation event to engage the community on accessibility matters. The session takes place Wednesday, October 30, from 3 – 6 p.m. at the Accessibility Centre in the John Rhodes Community Centre. Styled as a "come and go" for accessibility/disability/barrier-related feedback, residents can voice their opinions, provide feedback, and contribute to the betterment of our City's accessibility.
American Sign Language provided at the event: American Sign Language Interpreter (ASL interpreter) will be available in person at the event, and alternate formats will be made available upon request.
Transit seeks community input: The Transit department is seeking input regarding its Accessibility Plan, design criteria for bus stops and shelters, and the necessity, location, and design of on-street accessible parking. Copies of Transit's Accessibility Plan and accessibility policies will be available, along with information on Parabus services.
Enhancing Accessibility: The Accessibility department will be consulting on the Corporation’s Accessibility Plan and Draft Accessible Customer Service Policy Statement. Copies of these documents will be available for review. Staff will be gathering insights into any customer service barriers encountered by the community.
Recreation and Culture Updates: The Recreation and Culture Division will be have copies of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan available and will be seeking information regarding accessible playground equipment, locations for adult change tables and the location of rest stops and benches along the Hub Trail. Residents can influence the future of recreational facilities and cultural offerings in the city.
