Parking Reminders

The City of Sault Ste. Marie reminds residents that the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and Special Constables from Norpro Security Ltd. monitor and enforce parking infractions proactively.
To help ensure safe and clear streets, motorists are reminded of the following regulations:

Winter Parking Restrictions: Under by-law 77-200-5(14), parking on City streets is not allowed from November 1 to April 30 between midnight and 6 a.m., even when there is no snow. When snowfall occurs, officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and Norpro Security Ltd. may tag and tow vehicles to support Public Works with snow removal. Vehicles parked on the road during this time may be towed at the owner's expense.

By-Law No. 4001 (Amended By-Law 2018-110) prohibits overnight parking in Downtown Municipal Parking lots year round

Do not block sidewalks: Ensure sidewalks always remain clear.

Vehicles should not be parked in designated fire routes.

Vehicles should only park in accessible parking spaces if a valid Ministry of Transportation accessible parking permit is clearly displayed on the dashboard or sun visor, with the permit number and expiry date visible. Vehicles should not be parked on city streets facing the wrong direction.

Vehicles should not be parked on private property without the owner's or occupant's consent.

Vehicles should not be parked within three metres of a fire hydrant.

Vehicles with expired license plates or without license plates are prohibited from parking on city streets.
