'Mayor for a Day' contest winner announced

The City of Sault Ste. Marie and the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie North are pleased to announce the winner of the 'Mayor for a Day' contest. 
 
Helena Bubinas, a grade 5 student from F.H. Clergue, has been selected as our community's Mayor for a Day. In her submission, Helena displayed an impressive knowledge of local issues, along with creative ideas for the community.
 
Mayor Provenzano, the City and the Rotary Club wish to extend congratulations to Helena and all of the students who participated in the contest. Through written or video submissions, local youth demonstrated a significant understanding of municipal governance and operations, along with a passion for Sault Ste. Marie.

  • Justyce Kaboni (H.M. Robbins)
  • Tye Turco (Tarentorus Public School)
  • Alix and Alice Rushton (St. Francis French Immersion)
  • Maggie Chapman (St. Joseph Island Central School)
As the 'Mayor for a Day', Helena will get to tour the Civic Centre and participate in some of Mayor Provenzano's activities. Her class at F.H. Clergue will receive a pizza party and a visit from the Mayor. 
 
Helena will officially open an upcoming City Council meeting. Her video will be played at the beginning of the meeting and students recognized with honourable mentions are invited to attend the meeting as well.
 
Helena will also attend a Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie North breakfast with her family. On behalf of the club, she will participate in a cheque presentation to a children’s charity of her choice.
 
The Mayor for a Day contest was jointly sponsored by the City of Sault Ste. Marie and Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie North.
