Cruise ship season wraps up

Thursday, October 17, 2019
Roberta Bondar Park hosted several cruise ship visits throughout the summer and early fall, continuing a positive trend that has developed over the past few years.
Cruise ships are a growing aspect of the local tourism industry. These ships bring tourists to Sault Ste. Marie that spend money at local restaurants, shops and stores. In 2019 alone, ships brought approximately 5,000 visitors to the community.
Local organizations such as the Sault Ste. Marie Downtown Association and Tourism Sault Ste. Marie, along with the City’s Recreation and Culture Division, are working to ensure these visitors enjoy their time in the community. Next year, more than 20 ship visits are expected, including the recently christened Hanseatic Inspiration from Germany, along with the Pearl Mist,
Victory 1 and
Le Champlain. A schedule will be posted in advance of 2020 cruise ship season.
