Significant weather event update

Wednesday, November 27, 2024

The City of Sault Ste. Marie provides the following updates regarding its ongoing significant weather event.

Transit routes are experiencing delays, and Parabus service may have difficulties accessing unplowed parking lots. Please remain patient.

Public Works continues to deploy all available crews and equipment to keep up with the falling snow and ice formation. During significant events, arterial and collector roads are prioritized, followed by residential streets.

To support efficient snow removal, vehicles must not block sidewalks and avoid parking on City streets. Residents are reminded that the snow plowed to the end of their driveway during a significant snow event is their responsibility and may be more than usual.

Do not leave garbage and recycling carts out the night before collection, as this can cause snow plowing and snow removal issues. Instead, garbage and recycling carts should be placed curbside before 7 a.m. on the designated collection day. Basketball and other sports nets must not be placed near the street.

Motorists should drive according to the road conditions and maintain a safe distance for heavy equipment operators to clear and sand roadways safely and efficiently. The parking by-law remains in effect, prohibiting parking on City streets between midnight and 6 a.m. during winter.
