The City of Sault Ste. Marie along with Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) recognize the economic impact and benefits of being a host gaming community.
During the Outstanding Business Achievement Awards, hosted by the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce, Jake Pastore, OLG’s Director of Municipal and Community Relations presented a cheque to the City in the amount of $1,493,571 representing proceeds from Gateway Casinos Sault Ste. Marie for the 2018-2019 fiscal year. To date, the City has received over $29 million in slot revenue for hosting the casino, which opened in 1999. Profits for the 2018-2019 fiscal year have been reinvested in the community including assisting with asset management projects for a number of municipal facilities.
“We appreciate OLG's ongoing support and its employees' continued involvement in our community,” said Mayor Christian Provenzano. “OLG is an active partner that continues to have a positive impact and through the Community Recognition Program it provides important support for local charities, community facilities, infrastructure projects and public services. We look forward to further collaboration to benefit residents of the Sault.”
“OLG is proud to be a vital part of Sault Ste. Marie for more than 19 years and we look forward to continuing to build on that support”, said Jake Pastore, OLG’s Director of Municipal and Community Relations. “Each and every year 100 per cent of OLG proceeds are invested in Ontario. From healthcare, to education, to community festivals, OLG proceeds are hard at work in Sault Ste. Marie and all across our province. We appreciate the contribution of gaming site employees in making life in Sault Ste. Marie that much richer.”
The City of Sault Ste. Marie looks forward to further strengthening the community by continuing to work closely with stakeholders like OLG.
