The City of Sault Ste. Marie continues to monitor the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation closely, and the leadership of the City is working diligently with Algoma Public Health and community partners to respond appropriately. The City has a corporate pandemic response plan that is being reviewed regularly. Appropriate measures to protect staff and residents and contain the spread of the virus will be implemented as determined necessary in consultation with our community partners and public health officials.
“The health and safety of community members remains our foremost priority. We have been and will continue to follow the guidance of public health experts regarding appropriate measures to address the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Mayor Christian Provenzano.
“I want to remind people to follow the advice of public health experts, such as: washing your hands often with soap and warm running water, avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, covering your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your arm, staying home if you are sick and avoiding large gatherings. This is a challenging situation but we will continue to work together and by doing so we will manage through this together.”

“At this time, there are still no cases of COVID-19 in Algoma. While a number of Algoma residents have been tested, there has been no positive result so far. For all people who have received testing, Algoma Public Health is working closely with local health providers to monitor the health of these individuals and to give guidance on self-isolation.”
