The City of Sault Ste. Marie is pleased to announce the winner of the Mayor for a Day contest.
Taylor May Brown, Grade 5, St. Francis French Immersion, has been selected as our community's Mayor for a Day. Her
video submission was a creative display of her love for her hometown, highlighting her civic pride.
Mayor Shoemaker and the City wish to extend congratulations to Taylor and all of the students who participated in the contest. Through written or video submissions, local youth demonstrated an understanding of municipal governance and operations, along with a passion for Sault Ste. Marie.
Honourable mentions include:
-
Scarlett Douglas, Grade Five, Parkland Public School
-
Jax O’Hara, Grade Five, Greenwood Public School
-
Charlotte Mackenzie, Grade Five, Tarentorus Public School
“I was really impressed by the thoughtful and creative submissions from local students. I want to thank everyone who participated and took the time to share their ideas – it made choosing just one Mayor for a Day a real challenge,” said Mayor Matthew Shoemaker.
“The Mayor for a Day contest is a unique initiative that helps the City involve youth in local government, and I’m looking forward to meeting the winner and the honourable mentions at the City Council meeting tonight.”
As the Mayor for a Day, Taylor will get to tour the Civic Centre and meet with Mayor Shoemaker. Her class at St. Francis Catholic School will receive a pizza party and a visit from the Mayor.
Taylor will officially open the City Council meeting on June 23. Her video will be shown at the beginning of the meeting and students recognized with honourable mentions have been invited to attend the meeting as well.
