Explore the benefits of Active Transportation
Tuesday, June 11, 2024
The City of Sault Ste. Marie is developing an Active Transportation Master Plan (ATMP) that supports the growth of the physical and social infrastructure to support walking, cycling, and rolling throughout the community.
The goals of the ATMP are to:
-
Improve safety for all road users through best practices in roadway design.
-
Enhance accessibility by creating new infrastructure for walking, cycling, and mobility devices.
-
Create connections for seamless, comfortable access to community destinations, including connections to the Hub Trail.
-
Improve mobility equity for people of all ages and abilities.
-
Develop a culture of activity with new programs and resources to encourage walking, cycling, and wheeling.
The City has identified a network of potential routes, that prioritize connectivity, minimize environmental impact, and ensure equitable access across the community. From painted bike lanes to shared roads and protected bike lanes, each facility type has been identified to suit the unique characteristics and needs of the surrounding areas.
To engage the community and gather feedback, two public information sessions will be held:
Monday June 17
John Rhodes Community Centre
4 to 7 p.m. (drop in any time)
Wednesday June 19
Northern Community Centre
4 to 7 p.m. (drop in any time)
