Monday, July 25, 2022

The City of Sault Ste. Marie invites local/national professional artists and artist teams to submit pieces for consideration for an installation at the Northern Community Centre.
“The goal of this art project is to activate the lobby area and engage with the community and visitors attending the Northern Community Centre," said Virginia McLeod, Manager of Recreation and Culture.

"The facility serves a diverse range of ages and includes an indoor turf facility, 55+ programming, community programming, two new ice pads and community rooms, which are currently under construction. The art installation will act as a community showpiece; enhancing the new space."

The two-dimensional installation is open to the artist(s) interpretation. The total project budget is $35,000 for purchase, delivery and installation and it is included for the artist's fees, materials, fabrication, installation and engineering if required.
Deadline to submit proposals is August 10, 2022. A selection committee comprised of City staff and representative(s) from the Cultural Vitality Committee will determine five short-listed artists. These artists will be invited to create a detailed design proposal using a terms of reference to guide the artists in the preparation of their proposals. Short-listed artists will be paid a flat fee of $1,000.
The public will also have an opportunity to view short-listed proposals. Finalists will be chosen based on which proposal responds best to the City of Sault Ste. Marie’s Public Art Policy – Guiding Principles and selection criteria.
