Call to artists for the storm water art project

Friday, July 29, 2022

The City of Sault Ste. Marie invites local artists to submit designs and participate in the local storm water drain outreach project.

“The goal of this project is to bring awareness to potential pollutants entering the drainage system. Designs that are submitted should draw attention to the storm drainage system throughout the city, and educate the public on the connection of the drainage system and the St. Mary’s river,” said Virginia McLeod, Manager of Recreation and Culture.

This project represents an opportunity for local artists to display their creativity, while making a difference and impact in the community. Six artists will be selected to paint their design. A $250 honorarium and painting supplies will be provided.

Deadline to submit proposals is August 8 at 4:30 p.m. with painting taking place August 15 to 31 based on artist availability.

Artists are asked to download one of the two design templates on the City’s Website at saultstemarie.ca/stormwaterart. The template along with a coloured drawing of proposed designs can be sent to Csd.student3@cityssm.on.ca. All inquiries regarding this project may be directed to Virginia McLeod, Manager of Recreation and Culture v.mcleod@cityssm.on.ca or phone at 705-971-8913.
