Free energy conservation incentives information series for business

Thursday, February 16, 2023

Investing in energy efficiency is a smart and effective way for businesses to reduce operating costs, stay competitive and meet sustainability goals. The City of Sault Ste. Marie and the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre have partnered to deliver a free two-part in-person luncheon information series on commercial and industrial natural gas and electricity conservation incentive programs. The sessions take place at the Ronald A. Irwin Civic Centre in the Russ Ramsey room (3rd Floor) and lunch is provided.

The first session is on Tuesday, February 28 from 12 – 1 p.m. and focuses on natural gas incentives. Participants will gain an overview of Enbridge’s natural gas commercial conservation incentive offerings and the new energy-as-a-service line of business called Enbridge Sustain. This service offers dependable and convenient energy solutions to developers and commercial customers to help reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and energy costs. Currently offered technologies include geothermal heating, solar photovoltaic, hybrid heating and electric vehicle chargers. Following the presentation, Enbridge will meet with businesses to discuss prospective projects and coordinate potential facility site visits. To register for this session, check out the event posting.

The second session is on Tuesday, April 11 from 12 – 1 p.m. and focuses on electricity. Participants will gain an overview of the Independent Electricity System Operations (IESO) electricity commercial conservation incentive programs. Inner City Fund, the IESOs Northern Ontario incentive program delivery partner, will be in attendance to meet with businesses to discuss prospective projects and facility site visits. “Developers, businesses and building owners face challenges in implementing low-to-no carbon solutions due to high capital costs” said Emily Cormier, Sustainability Coordinator with the City of Sault Ste. Marie. “Enbridge’s natural gas conservation incentives programs as well as the new Enbridge Sustain service, can help businesses big and small address these challenges and contribute to the clean energy transition.”

“The business community is a vital part of our city, and Sault Ste. Marie believes that informed decision-making is key to creating the best possible environment for businesses to thrive,” notes Graham Atkinson, Manager of Business Development with the City of Sault Ste. Marie. “Facilitating information sessions like these allow business owners/operators to stay current, giving them an opportunity to minimize operational barriers and be competitive in their markets.”

“These sessions allow our local business community to capitalize on cost savings available through incentive programs,” explains Taylor Trecroce, Director of Business Development at Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre. “We are happy to partner with The City to provide a platform where questions surrounding the supports to reduce carbon emissions for businesses can be answered.”

Seating at each session is limited to 40 participants. For more information contact Emily Cormier, Sustainably Coordinator at 705-989-8748 or email at e.cormier2@cityssm.on.ca.
