Fort Creek Conservation Area parking lot closed

The Sault Ste. Marie Region Conservation Authority (SSMRCA) has made the difficult decision to close the parking area at the Fort Creek Conservation Area as a result of public overcrowding, garbage dumping, pet waste issues, and reduced staffing and service levels.
As a result of these issues and in conjunction with the COVID-19 Provincial State of Emergency, effective immediately the parking area at the Fort Creek Conservation Area is closed. The SSMRCA strongly encourages everyone to “Stay Home” unless it is essential to go out.
Conservation areas and trails that are not otherwise closed will remain open for walkthrough access, but individuals must maintain a safe physical distance of at least two metres apart from others. The public is reminded that the use of conservation areas is “at your own risk”.
Barricades and signage at the Fort Creek entrance off Second Line will be installed Friday, April 17, 2020 until further notice.
The SSMRCA is committed to taking measures to protect the health of our community members and the safety of our staff, and we will continue to actively monitor the COVID-19 situation in collaboration with the City of Sault Ste. Marie and local public health experts.
The SSMRCA office closed to the public on Friday, March 20, 2020. We are taking precautions to continue to offer our services in a way that is safe for everyone while ensuring we continue to provide essential services such as Permits, Flood Control, Flood Forecasting and Warning, and Drinking Water Source Protection.
