Residential
Household waste that is not recyclable is collected weekly and taken to the landfill. Only non-recyclable items should be placed in the garbage. To make certain you are not disposing of items that could be recycled, please view the
Cart Collection System.
Note: Fluorescent lights are to be disposed of at the
Household Hazardous Waste Depot.
Refuse (garbage) should be curbside before 7 a.m. on collection day. Place bags/containers on the ground as close as possible to the roadway, but not on the sidewalk, travelled roadway or on top of snow banks. During the winter months, residents are asked to place carts curbside by 7 a.m., but not before 5 a.m. to assist with snow plow operations
Each residence is limited to two bags/containers of refuse. Containers may not exceed 121 litres. Any container over 121 litres is considered a storage unit and every bag of refuse in the unit is counted as a bag.
Maximum weight for bags/containers is 20 kilograms or 44 pounds.
Bag tags must be affixed to any excess bags/containers. Tags may be purchased at various locations throughout the city. See
Bag Tags for a list of locations.
Please refrain from using ropes, cables or chains to permanently attach garbage lids to bins. Lids are not to be attached by any means other than from the manufacturer. On windy days, this creates a serious health and safety hazard for our operators.
Thank you for your assistance with keeping our operators safe.
